Maria Papadopoulou, Director of the TALOS AI4SSH Lab, participated in the BIP, Blended Intensive Programme, “Teaching Environment and Environmental Sustainability in the Third Millennium: Innovation and Artificial Intelligence in a Transnational European Framework”, hosted by the University of Oviedo.

The programme brought together faculty from partner universities of the INGENIUM European University alliance, including the University of Oviedo, the University of Crete, Università degli Studi “G. d’Annunzio” Chieti-Pescara, and Gheorghe Asachi Technical University of Iași. It combined online sessions on 10 and 11 September 2026 with onsite activities at the University of Oviedo from 22 to 26 September 2026.

Across the programme, participants engaged in keynote lectures, seminars, hands-on workshops, group work, field visits, mini-project presentations, peer discussions, and an international roundtable. These activities explored teaching, sustainability, innovation, and Artificial Intelligence within a European academic framework.

On Wednesday, 23 September, Maria Papadopoulou presented the research activities and vision of TALOS, focusing on Hybrid and Explainable Artificial Intelligence for the Social Sciences and Humanities, Digital Classics, semantic annotation, digital scholarly editions, and knowledge graphs.

The visit also provided an opportunity for discussions on future collaboration between the University of Oviedo and TALOS. Maria Papadopoulou met with Professor Lucía Rodríguez-Noriega Guillén, Professor of Greek Philology at the University of Oviedo, as well as colleagues from Filología Clásica y Románica. The discussions explored possible joint activities in Classical Philology, Digital Humanities, and AI for Classics.

The participation in the BIP and the meetings at the University of Oviedo opened promising perspectives for academic cooperation and future educational and research initiatives between the University of Crete and the University of Oviedo.
