TALOS hands-on training at the Crete Past and Present 2026 Summer School
As part of the Crete Past and Present 2026 Summer School, the TALOS Lab delivered the hands-on session “Looking for Europa (mal du pays)” in Rethymno on 25 June 2026. Led by Maria Papadopoulou and Rafail Giannadakis, the training introduced participants to the myth of Europa, its textual and visual receptions, and to AI-supported methods such as semantic annotation, ontology-based modelling, and knowledge graphs, which students then applied in group work.
TOTh 2026 Successfully Concluded in Chambéry
TOTh 2026 successfully concluded in Chambéry after four days of training, presentations, and international exchange at the intersection of terminology, ontology, and artificial intelligence. Organised by the University of Crete’s TALOS Lab in AI4SSH, the event featured a two-day pre-conference training, the 20th anniversary conference programme, presentations by TALOS members, and the Young Researcher Prize awarded to Giuliana Elizabeth Vilela Ruiz.
TOTh 2026 Book of Abstracts Now Available—Opening talk by Danielle Candel (CNRS, Université Paris Cité)
The TOTh 2026 Book of Abstracts is now available, offering an overview of this year’s contributions to the 20th anniversary edition of the TOTh International Conference, to be held on 4–5 June 2026 at the University Savoie Mont Blanc and online. The programme will open with Danielle Candel’s lecture, “On the 20th Anniversary of the TOTh Conference,” while the AI terminology training led by Silvia Piccini, Christophe Roche, and Maria Papadopoulou will take place on 2–3 June 2026.

Crete Past and Present: Receptions of Crete Summer School (University of Crete | June, 2026) — AI & Classics hands-on session
The TALOS Lab announces its participation in the Summer School “Crete Past and Present: Receptions of Crete” (University of Crete, Rethymnon, 21–27 June 2026). The programme explores how Crete’s myths, landscapes, and literary traditions have been reimagined from antiquity to today, alongside visits to major archaeological and museum sites. TALOS contributes the half-day hands-on seminar “Looking for Europa (mal du pays)” (Dr Maria Papadopoulou & Rafail Giannadakis), introducing AI-assisted annotation, ontology modelling, and linked data workflows for FAIR outputs. New hybrid GIS Training by Alexandros Maridakis (UoC)!
TALOS Lab marks GIS Day 2025 with a hybrid, hands-on GIS workshop led by Alexandros Maridakis (University of Crete) on Tuesday, 18 November 2025, 11:30–14:30 (EEST). Participants will use QGIS and ArcGIS to map and analyze humanities and cultural-heritage data; the session is in English, recorded, and offered onsite at UCRC KEME (Building Γ2/Γ3) and online via Zoom.

TALOS Participation in Two-Day Seminar for Secondary Education Teachers (Heraklion)
TALOS members Prof. Eleni Katsarou and Rafail Giannadakis participated in a two-day seminar for secondary education teachers in Heraklion (9–10 Oct 2025), presenting on AI in education and curricula analysis, and AI/VR-AR for teaching antiquity. The event highlighted innovative, participatory practices aligned with the new curricula and strengthened ties between research and classroom practice.
Knowledge Modelling & Ontoterminologies Training for TALOS Interns
On August 7, 2025, TALOS Research Assistant Rafail Giannadakis led a training for the lab’s interns on knowledge modelling, ontologies, and the TEDI software, offering hands-on insights and practical skills as part of the TALOS Internship Program.
