TALOS hands-on training at the Crete Past and Present 2026 Summer School
As part of the Crete Past and Present 2026 Summer School, the TALOS Lab delivered the hands-on session “Looking for Europa (mal du pays)” in Rethymno on 25 June 2026. Led by Maria Papadopoulou and Rafail Giannadakis, the training introduced participants to the myth of Europa, its textual and visual receptions, and to AI-supported methods such as semantic annotation, ontology-based modelling, and knowledge graphs, which students then applied in group work.
Crete Past and Present: Receptions of Crete Summer School (University of Crete | June, 2026) — AI & Classics hands-on session
The TALOS Lab announces its participation in the Summer School “Crete Past and Present: Receptions of Crete” (University of Crete, Rethymnon, 21–27 June 2026). The programme explores how Crete’s myths, landscapes, and literary traditions have been reimagined from antiquity to today, alongside visits to major archaeological and museum sites. TALOS contributes the half-day hands-on seminar “Looking for Europa (mal du pays)” (Dr Maria Papadopoulou & Rafail Giannadakis), introducing AI-assisted annotation, ontology modelling, and linked data workflows for FAIR outputs. Celebrating the Successful Closing of the TALOS Summer School 2025
The TALOS Summer School 2025 successfully concluded in Rethymno, bringing together 25 talented students to explore Artificial Intelligence in the social sciences and humanities. Over eight days, participants engaged in lectures, hands-on workshops, and collaborative projects, culminating in a closing ceremony and diploma award. The TALOS team will soon share all training materials online for wider access.
Echoes of the Past, Engines of the Future: AI & Classics at Crete Past and Present 2025
At the Crete Past and Present 2025 summer school, students explored the intersection of Classics and AI in a hands-on workshop led by Dr. Maria Papadopoulou and Rafail Giannadakis (TALOS Lab). Using the Knowledge Graph Editor (KGE), participants modeled ancient tragedies, gaining practical experience in symbolic AI and digital humanities tools.

Join the Summer School “TALOS – Artificial Intelligence for the Social and Human Sciences 2025”!
The TALOS-AI4SSH Lab at the University of Crete is hosting the summer school “TALOS – Artificial Intelligence for the Social and Human Sciences 2025” from September 3–10 in Rethymno. Aimed at Greek students (2nd grade Junior to 2nd grade Senior High), the program explores AI in areas like cultural heritage, language, and education. Participation is free, with priority given to girls. Applications opened May 14.
