Presentation by Melissa Bergoffen at the 3rd MEDITARCH – Ancient World Conference
TALOS is pleased to share that Melissa Bergoffen will participate in the 3rd MEDITARCH – Ancient World Conference, taking place on 16 October 2026 at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
Her presentation, “Female Representations of the Bronze Age Aegean Managed through Semantic AI Technology: Using Ont(otermin)ologies to Better Assess Depictions of Dress,” explores how semantic AI technologies and ontologies can support the study of female representations in Bronze Age Aegean wall paintings.
Focusing particularly on hairstyles and jewelry, her research addresses inconsistencies in the terminology used to describe dress in archaeological scholarship. By developing an Iconographic Metadata Ontology, the study aims to establish a more consistent framework for documenting and comparing visual representations across different archaeological contexts.

- Session: Session 2 – Mycenaean Archaeology of Mainland Greece
- Time: 11:10–11:25
