On Saturday, 13 June 2026, Prof. Eleni Melina Tamiolaki, Vice Rector of the University of Crete, Professor of Ancient Greek Philology, and Scientific Coordinator of TALOS-AI4SSH, together with Melissa Bergoffen, PhD candidate in TALOS, participated in the scientific event «Οπτικοποιώντας την Ιστορία» [“Visualising History”], organised by the UNESCO Club “Knossos” in Heraklion.

Held at the Kastellaki Hall of the Heraklion Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the event focused on the role of Artificial Intelligence, 3D modelling, and Augmented Reality in the study, preservation, interpretation, and public presentation of cultural and historical heritage. According to the organisers, the event drew approximately 195 officially registered participants, alongside additional attendees and guests.

As part of the scientific programme, Melina Tamiolaki and Melissa Bergoffen presented the talk «Το πρόγραμμα του Πανεπιστημίου Κρήτης: ΤΑΛΩΣ — Τεχνητή Νοημοσύνη για τις ανθρωπιστικές και κοινωνικές επιστήμες — Η έρευνα για την ψηφιακή πολιτιστική κληρονομιά». Their presentation introduced the broader vision of TALOS and highlighted current work in digital cultural heritage and digital archaeology. In the organisers’ wrap-up, special emphasis was placed on the use of semantic ontologies to organise and connect archaeological and philological data, as well as on the importance of training hybrid researchers able to bridge the humanities and computational methods.

The event brought together speakers from the University of Crete, FORTH, and the wider cultural and creative sector, and the organisers have made the full recording and photo material available online. The event also received coverage in the local press.
