TALOS at the Hybrid International Women’s Day Event of the 14th Panhellenic Student Conference of Archaeology
Antonia Lourentzaki (TALOS Research Assistant) and Rachel Milio (TALOS PhD candidate) represent the TALOS Lab today at the hybrid International Women’s Day event organised by the 14th Panhellenic Student Conference of Archaeology (7 March 2026, “Xenia” Student and Cultural Center, Rethymno & online). Their talk, “Prostitutes and Queens: Making Women of the Past visible in the Digital Age” (18:25–18:45), highlights how digital approaches can support the study and visibility of women in the past.
Gaming and Literacy in the Age of AI: Perspectives and New Directions (Virtual)
The TALOS–AI4SSH Lab at the University of Crete announces the virtual event “Gaming and Literacy in the Age of AI: Perspectives and New Directions” (18 March 2026, 18:00–20:00 EET). Open to the public (registration required), the event explores how gaming environments shape meaning-making, identity, and multimodal literacies, and how these processes are being reshaped by artificial intelligence and the growing need for critical AI literacy. Speakers include Dr. Earl Aguilera and Dr. Raúl Alberto Mora, with Dr. Zoi Traga Philippakos serving as discussant.
TALOS 5th PhD Meeting (Hybrid): Research Presentations and Guest Lecture!
The 5th TALOS PhD Meeting will take place on 6 March 2026 in hybrid format, onsite in Rethymno and online via Zoom. The session will feature research presentations by TALOS PhD candidates and TALOS Lab–affiliated doctoral researchers on topics ranging from semantic prosopography and NLP to ontoterminology and archaeological metadata, and will conclude with a guest lecture by Emmanuela Schoinoplokaki (UCSB, LOREL Lab) on the intersections of Classics, Social Justice, and Digital Humanities.
TALOS 2026 Inaugural Event: Visit by Toma Tasovac (DARIAH ERIC, Director Emeritus) | Hybrid
The TALOS Lab inaugurates its 2026 events with a hybrid gathering on 17 February 2026, featuring Toma Tasovac (DARIAH ERIC, Director Emeritus). The programme includes talks by Toma Tasovac and Stavroula Konstantopoulou (PhD candidate, University of Valladolid & Visiting Scholar, Talos Lab), a TALOS Award Ceremony (Open Dataset Reuse Award and Short Program–Diploma in DH Excellence Award), and the traditional vasilopita cake cutting. The event will take place onsite in Rethymno (KEME/UCRC) and online via Zoom.
Reviving Antiquity in the Digital Age: An Online Talk by Rafail Giannadakis at the General Lyceum of Lechaina
Rafail Giannadakis delivered a successful online talk at the General Lyceum of Lechaina on 3 December 2025, where he presented the mission and work of the TALOS AI4SSH Lab and discussed the use of Artificial Intelligence and digital tools in the teaching of antiquarian subjects in secondary education. Drawing on examples from ancient texts, archaeology, and multimedia applications, the talk highlighted new ways of engaging with antiquity while emphasising the importance of a critical approach to generative AI.
TALOS Visit to Stanford University: Discussions on AI in Education
Professor Eleni Katsarou and Dr Konstantinos Sipitanos visited the Stanford Graduate School of Education on 10–11 December 2025, hosted by Dr Víctor R. Lee and Christine Bywater. During the visit, they presented their research on Artificial Intelligence in Education and engaged in discussions with members of Stanford GSE, CSET, the Stanford Accelerator for Learning, and the DISTAL Lab. The meetings established groundwork for potential future collaboration between TALOS AI4SSH and Stanford University in the area of AI in education.
Radio Interview with Dr Maria Papadopoulou now available online: Artificial Intelligence and the Human
Dr Maria Papadopoulou, Director of the TALOS Lab, discussed Artificial Intelligence and its impact on human thinking, learning, and ethics in a radio interview on Dialogues with Antonis Vamiedakis, highlighting the role of the Humanities in a digital world.
TALOS Research Visit to Athens: Rafail Giannadakis at NTUA and GlossAPI
Rafail Giannadakis represented TALOS AI4SSH during a two-day research visit to Athens, invited by the λ-Form Group at NTUA and the GlossAPI team of GFOSS. His talks addressed ontological and terminological modelling for ancient world studies and philosophical questions in Plato’s Republic, strengthening links between TALOS, NTUA, and GFOSS.
TALOS Visit to California State University, East Bay: Exploring Collaborations in AI Literacy and Educational Technology
Professor Eleni Katsarou and Dr Konstantinos Sipitanos represented the TALOS Lab during a two-day visit to California State University, East Bay, hosted by Associate Professor Earl Aguilera. They presented research on AI literacy for future teachers and NLP-based curriculum analysis, opening the way for joint projects and a forthcoming Memorandum of Understanding.
TALOS at the 75th Annual Conference of the Literacy Research Association: Prof. Eleni Katsarou on AI-Powered Curriculum Analysis
Professor Eleni Katsarou represented TALOS AI4SSH at the 75th Annual Conference of the Literacy Research Association in Las Vegas, presenting AI-powered methods for analysing and redesigning L1 curricula. Her contribution showcased how NLP and digital tools can support evidence-based reform and strengthen literacy education.
