Taking place in Rethymnon (Crete, Greece), the Summer School invites participants to explore how Cretan archaeological sites and landscapes, myths and legends, and literary traditions have been represented and reinterpreted from antiquity to the present across film, drama, poetry, and music. The programme combines seminars with organised visits to major archaeological and museum sites, including Eleutherna, Knossos, the Archaeological Museum of Rethymnon, and the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion.
As part of the programme, the TALOS Lab contributes an AI and Classics half-day hands-on seminar titled “Looking for Europa (mal du pays)”, led by Dr Maria Papadopoulou and Rafail Giannadakis (TALOS Lab). The session introduces AI-driven workflows for building machine-readable datasets in Classical Reception Studies, using the myth of Europa as a case study. Participants will work with texts, images, and metadata, applying AI-assisted annotation, ontology modeling, and linked data tools to produce FAIR-compliant outputs (participants are asked to bring their own computer).
