TALOS at the 15th Conference on Hellenic Language & Terminology (ELETO): Dr. Maria Papadopoulou on AI & Terminology
TALOS Lab announces the participation of Dr. Maria Papadopoulou in the 15th Conference “Hellenic Language & Terminology” (ELETO)—co-organized with NKUA’s Department of French Language & Literature and the Technical Chamber of Greece—held 6–8 November 2025 in Athens. She will join the round table “Artificial Intelligence and Terminology,” presenting TALOS’s ISO/TC 37–aligned work on terminology, ontologies, and knowledge graphs for cultural heritage.
TALOS PhD Candidate Melissa Bergoffen Presented at the 2nd MEDITARCH – Ancient World Conference
TALOS PhD Candidate Melissa Bergoffen (RT2) participated in the 2nd MEDITARCH – Ancient World Conference at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, presenting her research on female representations in Bronze Age Aegean wall paintings. Her talk introduced how AI technologies, ontologies, and ontoterminologies can enhance archaeological data management and promote FAIR Principles, highlighting a feminist and interdisciplinary approach that bridges Artificial Intelligence and Archaeology.
TALOS at the “VR & AR Classroom Transformers” Erasmus+ Project Mobility in Crete
Members of the TALOS Lab participated in the Erasmus+ project “VR & AR Classroom Transformers” in Rethymno, presenting two talks on AI in education and digital technologies for cultural heritage. Professor Eleni Katsarou and Rafail Giannadakis showcased how Artificial Intelligence, VR, and AR can transform both classroom learning and the study of antiquity, aligning with TALOS’ mission to connect innovation, education, and the Humanities.
TALOS PhD Researcher Fotini Koidaki Presented at ICGL17 in Cambridge
TALOS PhD researcher Fotini Koidaki presented her work “From Page to Pixel: The 19th Century Greek 8.0 OCR Model” at the 17th International Conference on Greek Linguistics (ICGL17), University of Cambridge. Her presentation showcased a pioneering OCR model for digitizing 19th- and early 20th-century Greek prints, advancing Digital Humanities research and the preservation of Greek literary heritage.
TALOS Scientific Responsible, Prof. Melina Tamiolaki, at Conference on Humanities and Education in the 21st Century
Prof. Eleni Melina Tamiolaki, TALOS Scientific Responsible, participated in the national conference “Humanities and Education in the 21st Century: Problems and Prospects” at AUTH (26–27 September 2025). In her talk, she highlighted how TALOS connects Artificial Intelligence and the Humanities, showcasing the project as a model of innovation and interdisciplinarity.
TALOS Hosts AI4DH Delegation at the University of Crete
The TALOS Lab at the University of Crete is resuming its activities with a collaborative visit from the Slovenian ERA Chair Delegation – AI4DH. Professors Antoine Doucet and Marko Robnik Šikonja will join TALOS for a full day of exchange, fostering stronger European partnerships at the crossroads of Artificial Intelligence and the Humanities and Social Sciences.

Dr. Maria Papadopoulou, Director of the TALOS-AI4SSH Lab, was featured in InfoCom’s SmartTalks, a long-standing interview series that hosts key voices from technology, telecoms, and innovation. In her talk, she introduced the mission of TALOS, emphasizing the role of explainable, transparent, interdisciplinary, and impactful AI in advancing research in the Humanities and Social Sciences, as well as in shaping new approaches to cultural heritage.

On June 12, 2025, at 18:00 (GR time), Dr. Maria Papadopoulou, Director of TALOS AI4SSH, will present the lab’s mission at a special InScience Magazine event. The talk will be streamed live via Zoom, Facebook, YouTube, and the InScience website. TALOS is an EU-funded lab at UoC advancing AI in the Humanities and Social Sciences through interdisciplinary research and education.
