New book by Prof. Christophe Roche on Concept Theory and Terminology Marks the 20th Edition of TOTh!
As the 20th Anniversary Edition of the TOTh International Conference approaches, a big milestone marking this anniversary year is the publication of Christophe Roche’s new book, Une théorie du concept pour la terminologie, devoted to a conceptual theory of terminology and to the development of ontoterminology since its introduction in 2007.
Author: Christophe Roche
Title: Une théorie du concept pour la terminologie
Publisher: Éditions Hêrodotos
ISBN: 978-960-485-769-2
The book examines the conceptual foundations of terminology and addresses a set of central questions: what a concept is, how it is constructed, how knowledge can be organised coherently, and how terminology relates to both language and conceptual systems. In doing so, it argues that terminology is not only a science of words, but also a science of things.
The publication comes at a particularly important moment, as a French AFNOR standard on ontoterminology is currently under development, alongside a draft international ISO standard. In this context, the book offers a timely contribution to ongoing discussions on terminology, ontology, knowledge representation, and artificial intelligence.
At the crossroads of terminology, linguistics, epistemology, and AI, the monograph reflects the long-term intellectual trajectory of TOTh and the development of ontoterminology as a field. It will be of interest to all those working on the relations between language, concepts, and knowledge organisation.
