TALOS PhD Candidate Melissa Bergoffen Presented at the 2nd MEDITARCH – Ancient World Conference
The TALOS Lab is proud to announce the participation of Melissa Bergoffen, PhD Candidate of Research Topic 2 (RT2), in the 2nd MEDITARCH – Ancient World Conference, held on October 17, 2025, at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
Melissa presented in Session 3: Near Eastern Studies and Female Representations, where she shared part of her doctoral research through a presentation titled:
“Female Representations of the Bronze Age Aegean Managed through AI Technology: Methods and Application to Wall Paintings.”
Her talk explored how ontologies and ontoterminologies—key tools of Artificial Intelligence and knowledge representation—can be applied to iconographic archaeological artifacts, focusing particularly on female representations in Bronze Age Aegean wall paintings. By combining computational methods with feminist archaeology, her research aims to promote FAIR Principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) in archaeological data management and enhance visibility for women in prehistory.
This presentation reflects the interdisciplinary mission of the TALOS–AI4SSH project, integrating AI and Digital Humanities to advance the study and interpretation of ancient cultures.
