On Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at 8:30 PM, the Department of History and Archaeology at the University of Crete successfully hosted a lecture in Greek delivered by Dr. Maria Papadopoulou, Assistant Professor in the Department of Philology at UoC and Director of the “Talos- Artificial Intelligence for the Humanities and Social Sciences” Lab. The event took place in Room 3 of the School of Philosophy and drew significant interest.

The lecture, titled “Artificial Intelligence in the Service of History and Archaeology: Reshaping the Sciences of the Past with the Technologies of Tomorrow,” explored the transformative potential of AI tools in historical and archaeological research. 

Dr. Papadopoulou highlighted how modern AI technologies are transforming the way researchers uncover new insights about the past, enhance data analysis processes, and foster interdisciplinary collaboration, while also addressing concerns about data privacy, ethical implications, and the potential for misinterpretation or misuse of AI.

The lecture underscored the vital role of Artificial Intelligence in reimagining how we approach the sciences of the past, reaffirming the University of Crete as an innovative institution in fostering interdisciplinary research and collaboration.
