Maria Papadopoulou at University of California, Santa Barbara: Research Collaboration and Expert-Guided AI in the Humanities!
The TALOS Lab is pleased to announce the upcoming lecture and workshop of Dr Maria Papadopoulou, Assistant Professor of Digital Humanities and Classics at the University of Crete and Director of the TALOS Lab, hosted by the Department of Classics at the University of California, Santa Barbara. The visit, fully funded by UCSB, reflects a strong commitment to fostering international academic dialogue and collaboration between European and US institutions.
Welcoming Stavroula Konstantopoulou (PhD candidate, University of Valladolid) as a Visiting Scholar at the TALOS Lab!
Stavroula Konstantopoulou, PhD candidate in Classical Philology at the University of Valladolid, joins the TALOS AI4SSH Lab as a Visiting Scholar (January–April 2026). During her stay, she will work and discuss with the Lab members the integration of Artificial Intelligence, HTR, and TEI/EpiDoc methodologies into the study of Greek epigraphic and archival material, with a focus on the oracular tablets of Dodona and their excavation archives.
TALOS at Al Wasl University: Advancing International Collaboration
Dr Maria Papadopoulou, Director of the TALOS AI4SSH Lab, visited Al Wasl University in Dubai on 8 January 2026 for meetings focused on strengthening international collaboration. Discussions centred on the forthcoming Memorandum of Understanding between Al Wasl University and the University of Crete and explored concrete opportunities for joint research and educational initiatives in the Humanities, Artificial Intelligence, and Digital Humanities.
TALOS Visit to Stanford University: Discussions on AI in Education
Professor Eleni Katsarou and Dr Konstantinos Sipitanos visited the Stanford Graduate School of Education on 10–11 December 2025, hosted by Dr Víctor R. Lee and Christine Bywater. During the visit, they presented their research on Artificial Intelligence in Education and engaged in discussions with members of Stanford GSE, CSET, the Stanford Accelerator for Learning, and the DISTAL Lab. The meetings established groundwork for potential future collaboration between TALOS AI4SSH and Stanford University in the area of AI in education.
TALOS Research Visit to Athens: Rafail Giannadakis at NTUA and GlossAPI
Rafail Giannadakis represented TALOS AI4SSH during a two-day research visit to Athens, invited by the λ-Form Group at NTUA and the GlossAPI team of GFOSS. His talks addressed ontological and terminological modelling for ancient world studies and philosophical questions in Plato’s Republic, strengthening links between TALOS, NTUA, and GFOSS.
TALOS Visit to California State University, East Bay: Exploring Collaborations in AI Literacy and Educational Technology
Professor Eleni Katsarou and Dr Konstantinos Sipitanos represented the TALOS Lab during a two-day visit to California State University, East Bay, hosted by Associate Professor Earl Aguilera. They presented research on AI literacy for future teachers and NLP-based curriculum analysis, opening the way for joint projects and a forthcoming Memorandum of Understanding.
Visit of Prof. Petros Stefaneas (NTUA) and Foivos Karounos (GFOSS) at TALOS Lab
On October 6, 2025, the TALOS Lab will host Prof. Petros Stefaneas (NTUA) and Foivos Karounos (GFOSS) for a full-day exchange at KEME/UCRC in Rethymno. The visit will foster dialogue on Artificial Intelligence, Digital Humanities, and open technologies, highlighting opportunities for collaboration and innovation.
TALOS Hosts AI4DH Delegation at the University of Crete
The TALOS Lab at the University of Crete is resuming its activities with a collaborative visit from the Slovenian ERA Chair Delegation – AI4DH. Professors Antoine Doucet and Marko Robnik Šikonja will join TALOS for a full day of exchange, fostering stronger European partnerships at the crossroads of Artificial Intelligence and the Humanities and Social Sciences.
TALOS at the CyberSocial Learning Laboratory, University of Illinois!
Prof. Eleni Katsarou visited the CyberSocial Learning Lab at the University of Illinois, where she presented the RT4 project on the digitalization of education. She engaged in insightful discussions with Dr. Bill Cope and Dr. Mary Kalantzis on the impact of GenAI in literacy research and its potential to shape the future of education.
UPDATE: UoC Students visit to Greek DH Organizations (Athens, Jan 2025)
The Talos-AI4SSH Lab organized a successful two-day visit to Athens on January 29-30, 2025, for University of Crete students. Participants explored key Digital Humanities research centers, gaining valuable insights into innovative projects in AI and DH.
