TALOS AI4SSH at the University of Crete will be represented by Dr Maria Papadopoulou, Director of the TALOS Lab, at the 5th International Conference on Social Sciences (ICSS 2026), organized by Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University, Türkiye.

Taking place online on 8–9 October 2026, the conference focuses on “The Use of Artificial Intelligence in Social Sciences and Social Transformation”, addressing the growing role of Artificial Intelligence across the Social Sciences and its wider implications for society.

As part of the conference programme, Dr Papadopoulou will give a keynote presentation titled “Artificial Intelligence for the Social Sciences and Humanities: Building Research Capacity through the TALOS AI4SSH Centre of Excellence.”

The presentation will explore how the rapid development of Artificial Intelligence is transforming research practices across the Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH), building on a longer tradition of computational approaches in the field. It will discuss the opportunities emerging from advances in machine learning, natural language processing, knowledge graphs, and generative AI, as well as the need for appropriate research infrastructures, methodological frameworks, interdisciplinary expertise, and sustainable training ecosystems.

The keynote will also present selected activities and outcomes of TALOS AI4SSH at the University of Crete, including work in semantic technologies, knowledge graphs, digital cultural heritage, natural language processing, ontology engineering, and human-centred AI.

Particular attention will be given to TALOS initiatives in interdisciplinary training, curriculum development, international collaboration, and open research infrastructures, highlighting the importance of building research capacity for the responsible and effective use of AI in SSH research.

Through these activities, the presentation will highlight how initiatives such as TALOS AI4SSH can foster interdisciplinary innovation, strengthen research capacity, and contribute to the future of computational Social Sciences and Humanities.
