Organised by the UNESCO Club “Knossos”, the event will examine how contemporary digital technologies, including Artificial Intelligence, 3D modelling, and Augmented Reality, contribute to the study, interpretation, preservation, and presentation of cultural and historical heritage. The event is open to the public and admission is free.

As part of the programme, Melina Tamiolaki and Melissa Bergoffen will deliver the talk «Το πρόγραμμα του Πανεπιστημίου Κρήτης: ΤΑΛΩΣ — Τεχνητή Νοημοσύνη για τις ανθρωπιστικές και κοινωνικές επιστήμες — Η έρευνα για την ψηφιακή πολιτιστική κληρονομιά». Their presentation will be structured in two parts. It will offer a concise introduction to both the broader vision of TALOS and its specific research activity in the area of cultural heritage. In the first part, Melina Tamiolaki will present the main actions of the TALOS programme and its contribution to research on artificial intelligence for the humanities and social sciences. In the second part, Melissa Bergoffen will focus on the work carried out in digital archaeology within TALOS, highlighting current research on the use of semantic AI methods to study, classify, and document archaeological material as part of the programme’s wider engagement with digital cultural heritage.

The event brings together speakers from the University of Crete, FORTH, and the wider cultural and creative sector, with topics including semantic technologies and AI in access to culture, ambient intelligence and digital technologies for cultural heritage, cultural identity and digital innovation, and algorithmic design as a tool for reinterpreting artistic heritage. It is addressed to educators, school and university students, cultural and technology professionals, institutions, and all interested citizens.

Participants who register through Eventbrite and attend the event may receive a certificate of attendance. A reception and networking session will follow the talks, while part of the material will later be made openly available through the organiser’s YouTube channel.
