We are proud to announce that the University of Crete— members of the TALOS Lab, Prof. Christophe Roche, Dr. Maria Papadopoulou, and Evangelos Katis, together with long-standing collaborators Dr. Stamatis Papadakis and Dr. Haridimos Kondylakis, under the leadership of Prof. Eleni Katsarou, will coordinate the new European initiative Teachers’ Academy for AI Literacy.

The project has been awarded €1.5 million funding under ERASMUS-EDU-2025-PEX-TEACH-ACA and brings together a dynamic consortium of 14 partners from 7 European countries. These include universities, teacher education institutions, schools, and research centres, all working towards a shared mission: to empower teachers across Europe with the skills and knowledge necessary to critically engage with Artificial Intelligence in education.

Aims of the Teachers’ Academy for AI Literacy

The Academy will:

• Provide specialized professional development programs for teachers.
• Address both the technical aspects of AI and its humanistic, ethical, and social dimensions.
• Support teachers in becoming critical evaluators, responsible users, and effective facilitators of AI technologies in classrooms.
• Foster a transnational collaboration network, strengthening European strategies for digital transformation in education.
• Promote inclusivity and social equity, ensuring that AI adoption does not widen digital divides.

Broader Vision

By combining cutting-edge curricula design with international cooperation, the Teachers’ Academy for AI Literacy aspires to become a sustainable European hub for teacher education. It will help integrate AI in ways that are critical, ethical, and inclusive, preparing teachers to guide future generations with responsibility and confidence.
This marks a significant step for TALOS in linking Artificial Intelligence, Digital Humanities, and education, furthering its mission to foster cross-disciplinary research and training with real societal impact.
