Abstract
In this video Dr. Dimitris Billianos offers a training session on text processing.
Dimitrios Bilianos is a lecturer at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Linguistics from the University of Patras and a PhD in Computational Linguistics from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. The two-day training session provided a comprehensive introduction to text processing and analysis techniques, with a focus on both modern and ancient Greek texts. Participants explored foundational concepts such as text extraction, preprocessing, and basic visualization using libraries like NLTK, Pandas, and SpaCy. The training also delved into specialized tools like CLTK for tokenization, lemmatization, and dependency parsing in ancient Greek, as well as UGARIT for Greek-English alignment and named entity recognition. Finally, participants gained hands-on experience in sentiment analysis algorithms to compare their applications and effectiveness.
