TALOS at MDTT 2025: Exploring Ontoterminologies for the Study of Antiquity
Today, TALOS researchers Rachel Milio, Rafail Giannadakis, and Antonia Lourentzaki presented their paper “Creating Ontoterminologies for Antiquity: Workflow, Challenges and Solutions” at MDTT 2025 in Thessaloniki. Their work showcases a FAIR-aligned approach to building ontoterminologies for humanities research, using TEDI to address the conceptual and linguistic complexities of ancient data.
TOTh 2025: A Week of Innovation in Terminology, Ontology & AI
The 19th International TOTh Conference and Training Session brought together 92 participants from 18 countries for a dynamic week of exchange and learning, both onsite and online. The hands-on training on Knowledge Graphs, LLMs, and RAG set the stage for two days of rich academic dialogue, including excellent presentations from the TALOS – AI for SSH team. With engaging talks, a thought-provoking keynote, and two prizes awarded for outstanding contributions, TOTh 2025 was a success.
Invited Talk by TALOS Lab Director Maria Papadopoulou at InScience Magazine
On June 12, 2025, at 18:00 (GR time), Dr. Maria Papadopoulou, Director of TALOS AI4SSH, will present the lab’s mission at a special InScience Magazine event. The talk will be streamed live via Zoom, Facebook, YouTube, and the InScience website. TALOS is an EU-funded lab at UoC advancing AI in the Humanities and Social Sciences through interdisciplinary research and education.
Join the Summer School “TALOS – Artificial Intelligence for the Social and Human Sciences 2025”!
The TALOS-AI4SSH Lab at the University of Crete is hosting the summer school “TALOS – Artificial Intelligence for the Social and Human Sciences 2025” from September 3–10 in Rethymno. Aimed at Greek students (2nd grade Junior to 2nd grade Senior High), the program explores AI in areas like cultural heritage, language, and education. Participation is free, with priority given to girls. Applications opened May 14.

Dimitris Kotzinos visit at TALOS Lab
Join us on Friday, May 16, 2025, as TALOS Lab welcomes Professor Dimitris Kotzinos (CY Cergy Paris University) for a presentation on his European research projects in Social Sciences and Humanities. A leading expert in AI, data semantics, and ethical computing, Prof. Kotzinos will share insights from his work on knowledge graphs, social networks, and AI fairness. The open event will take place from 10:30 to 12:30 at the TALOS Conference Room, Rethymno.
4th TALOS PhD Meeting & Invited Speaker
Join us for the 4th TALOS PhD Meeting on May 14, 2025 (11:30–18:30, Greek time) at the TALOS Conference Room, UCRC, Gallos campus, or via Zoom. Presentations by PhD researchers and an on-site closing session by Antonios Angelakis on IPRs and innovation. Recording will be on the TALOS YouTube channel.
Melissa Bergoffen Presented at CAA 2025 (May 6)
Melissa Bergoffen (TALOS RT2) presented at CAA 2025 in Athens, emphasizing standardized metadata and quality imagery in pottery research. She introduced ontoterminologies via TEDI for her PhD work and enjoyed engaging with fellow researchers, discussing digital approaches in archaeology, and exploring a wide range of innovative applications showcased throughout the conference.
