PhD in RT3: Pattern Recognition in Literary Corpora
A study of 19th-century Ionian literature using Natural Language Processing methods (WP2, RT3)
This PhD research builds a comprehensive overview of 19th-century Ionian prose fiction that, unlike poetry, has long remained an uncharted area of modern Greek literature.
This project aims to identify the titles of 19th-century Ionian novels and build the digital corpus that will allow us to map the entire prose fiction production of Ionian islands during the 19th century.
Built upon objective criteria, this digital constitutes a cultural heritage and a valuable research resource that allows us to observe, not just the literary canon, but the whole novelistic production of the Ionian territory. By adopting a macroanalytic approach, we utilize NLP methods that will allow us to detect the Ionian cultural elements and observe linguistic and narrative continuities that may connect the novels. The overall objective is to map the literary phenomenon of the 19th century of Ionial prose fiction and extract its main features.
