Ἡ μὲν σκηνὴ τοῦ δράματος ἐν Θήβαις ὑπόκειται·
ὁ δὲ χορὸς ἐκ Θηβαίων ἐστὶ παρθένων·
ἡ δὲ ὑπόθεσις, στρατεία Ἀργείων πολιορκοῦσα Θηβαίους,
τοὺς καὶ νικήσαντας, καὶ θάνατος Ἐτεοκλέους καὶ Πολυνείκους.
ἐδιδάχθη ἐπὶ Θεαγένους Ὀλυμπιάδι οη΄.
ἐνίκα Λαΐῳ, Οἰδίποδι, Ἑπτὰ ἐπὶ Θήβας, Σφιγγί σατυρικῇ.
β (δεύτερος) Ἀριστίας Περσεί, Ταντάλῳ ... Παλαισταῖς σατύροις τοῖς Πρατίνου πατρός.

The setting of the drama is in Thebes.
The chorus consists of Theban maidens.
The plot involves the expedition of the Argives laying siege to the Thebans,
who are victorious, and the deaths of Eteocles and Polynices.
It was performed during the archonship of Theagenes, in the 78th Olympiad.
The winning trilogy included *Laius*, *Oedipus*, *Seven Against Thebes*, and the satyr play *Sphinx*.
Aristias placed second with *Persae*, *Tantalus*, and *Palaestae* as satyr play, attributed to the father of Pratinas.
Third was Polyphrasmon with the *Lycurgeia* tetralogy.
